Camp Nooteeming Alumni Association

        Since 1926, Camp Nooteeming has been serving as a homeaway-
from-home for generations of young men. Walk into any crowd in Dutchess County and speak the word “Nooteeming” and guaranteed more than a few will step forward to share fond tales of weekends and summers spent growing up amid the camp’s towering pines. Whether they learned to swim in Nooteeming Lake, fired their first gun at its rifle range or spent their first night under the stars in one of the camp’s spacious fields, Camp Nooteeming holds a dear place in the hearts of many Dutchess County men. Some spent a summer or two on camp staff – or as a Scout benefiting from the summer camp program – others were members of the Order of the Arrow lodge, still others achieved their first taste of independence camping here on their first weekend away from mom and dad as a new Scout camping with his unit. For 80 years Camp Nooteeming – with its red-washed buildings, exuberant Scout Spirit of songs and skits, and dedicated program people – has been playing a key role in the development of turning young boys into men. Not convinced? Go today to your local fire department, auto body or restaurant and mention the name “Nooteeming” – you might be surprised at the response of goodwill that follows.

The Camp Nooteeming Alumni Association was dreamed up by the Camp Nooteeming Properties Committee in preparation for the camp’s 80th anniversary celebration. Formal approval of the alumni association presently sits with the Hudson Valley Council. If approved the Camp Nooteeming Alumni Association will seek to gather those who cherish their memories of youth spent at Camp Nooteeming and who are eager to give those same experiences to future generations. Some it is hoped will volunteer their time and labor to improving the camp’s facilities and infrastructure, others may give of their time to camp program, while others hopefully will choose to donate financially. The alumni association will seek to bring together those men who share an indebtedness to Camp Nooteeming and provide them with the means to give back.

The Camp Nooteeming Alumni Association has set as its immediate aims:

  1. The construction of an impressive gateway to sit at the camp entranceway;
  2. The collection of patches, neckerchiefs and other Nooteeming memorabilia for a future camp museum; and
  3. The documentation of the camp’s 80-year history.

Please contact Camp Nooteeming Alumni Association President, NAME, or Michael Kelsey to learn more about how you can join.
